Lumecca IPL
High-Powered Light Therapy for Pigmentation and Vascular Concerns
Lumecca IPL at Muse Modern Spa is an advanced intense pulsed light treatment designed to address pigmentation irregularities and vascular lesions with fewer sessions than traditional IPL systems.
Lumecca delivers up to three times more energy than conventional IPL devices, allowing for efficient treatment of skin concerns often visible after a single session.
How Lumecca Works
Lumecca uses photothermolysis to deliver high-intensity pulses of broad-spectrum light to the skin. The device is equipped with a sapphire cooling tip that protects the skin’s surface while the light energy penetrates deeper layers.
The light is selectively absorbed by melanin in pigmented areas and hemoglobin in blood vessels. This absorption converts light energy into heat, which breaks down the targeted pigmentation or vascular structures. The body then naturally clears these damaged cells over the following weeks, revealing clearer skin.
Because Lumecca operates with optimized wavelengths and higher peak power, it can achieve results more efficiently than traditional IPL systems.
What This Treatment Is Designed to Address
Lumecca IPL may help improve the appearance of:
- Sun damage and age spots
- Freckles and hyperpigmentation
- Rosacea and facial redness
- Spider veins and broken capillaries
- Vascular lesions
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Post-acne pigmentation
Improvement in skin clarity and complexion is often noticeable after the first treatment, with continued enhancement as pigmented areas naturally shed and skin tone evens out.
Customization at Muse
Each Lumecca treatment is adjusted based on skin type, concern severity, and individual goals. Your provider will assess your skin and select appropriate settings to address specific pigmentation or vascular concerns safely.
Lumecca is typically recommended for lighter skin tones due to the nature of IPL technology, which targets melanin. Your provider will confirm suitability during consultation.
Areas Treated
Lumecca is commonly performed on areas with regular sun exposure, including the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms. Treatment areas are determined during consultation based on your specific concerns.
Before Your Treatment
To prepare for Lumecca IPL:
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for 3 to 4 weeks prior
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily during the preparation period
- Discontinue retinoids, exfoliating products, and acids for at least one week before treatment
- Avoid photosensitizing medications as directed by your provider
- Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores, as antiviral medication may be prescribed
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, or skincare products
After Your Treatment
Redness and mild warmth are normal immediately following Lumecca and typically subside within an hour. Some swelling may occur and generally resolves within 24 to 48 hours.
Treated pigmented areas may appear darker over the next one to two days before gradually flaking off over the following weeks. This darkening is an expected part of the process as damaged pigment rises to the surface.
Aftercare guidance includes:
- Applying cool compresses or aloe vera as needed for comfort
- Keeping skin well-moisturized with gentle products
- Avoiding sun exposure and wearing SPF 30 or higher daily
- Refraining from picking or scrubbing the treated area
- Avoiding retinoids, acids, and exfoliating products for at least one week
- Avoiding hot tubs, saunas, and excessive sweating for 24 to 48 hours
Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment if skin is intact and there is no irritation.
Treatment Series
While visible improvement may be noticed after a single session, optimal results typically require 1 to 3 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. The number of sessions needed depends on the type and extent of pigmentation or vascular concerns being addressed.
Pigmented lesions generally require fewer sessions than vascular concerns.
What to Expect During Treatment
A Lumecca session typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes depending on the treatment area. Protective eyewear is provided, and a cooling gel is applied to the skin.
During treatment, you will see bright flashes of light and may feel a sensation similar to a light snap against the skin. The sapphire cooling tip helps maintain comfort throughout the session.
