PRF and PRP Injections for Natural Hair Regrowth

Hair Restoration at Muse Modern Spa uses PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections to stimulate natural hair regrowth and improve hair density. These regenerative treatments harness growth factors from your own blood to revitalize dormant hair follicles.

Hair restoration injections are often chosen by individuals experiencing hair thinning, pattern hair loss, or reduced hair density who seek a non-surgical treatment option.

How Hair Restoration Works

Both PRF and PRP treatments begin with a small blood draw from your arm. The blood is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets and growth factors that promote tissue healing and regeneration.

PRP is created by spinning blood at higher speeds to separate and concentrate platelet-rich plasma. The concentrated plasma contains growth factors that, when injected into the scalp, stimulate hair follicles and encourage new hair growth.

PRF uses a slower centrifugation process without anticoagulants, which creates a fibrin matrix containing platelets, white blood cells, stem cells, and a higher concentration of growth factors. This fibrin scaffold allows for gradual, sustained release of these regenerative elements over time.

Once prepared, the PRF or PRP is injected directly into areas of the scalp where hair thinning or loss has occurred. The growth factors work to activate dormant hair follicles, improve blood supply to the scalp, and stimulate the natural hair growth cycle, resulting in thicker, stronger, healthier hair over time.

What This Treatment Is Designed to Address

Hair restoration with PRF and PRP may help improve:

  • Androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss)
  • Hair thinning and reduced hair density
  • Weakened or fine hair texture
  • Early to moderate stages of hair loss
  • Scalp health and follicle vitality

PRF is particularly effective for more advanced thinning and provides longer-lasting results due to its sustained release of growth factors. PRP is well-suited for early-stage hair loss and maintaining existing hair density.

Results develop gradually as hair follicles are stimulated and new growth begins. Visible improvement typically appears within 2 to 6 months, with optimal results developing over time with a series of treatments.

Customization at Muse

Treatment is customized based on the extent and pattern of hair loss, as well as your individual goals. Your provider will assess your scalp and determine whether PRF, PRP, or a combination approach is most appropriate for your needs.

Hair restoration injections may be combined with microneedling to enhance growth factor penetration and stimulate additional healing responses in the scalp.

Treatment Areas

PRF and PRP are injected into areas of the scalp experiencing thinning or hair loss. Common treatment zones include the hairline, crown, and areas with visible scalp or reduced density. Treatment areas are determined during consultation based on your hair loss pattern.

Before Your Treatment

To prepare for hair restoration:

  • Discontinue blood-thinning supplements (vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, ginkgo biloba) for one week prior
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and anti-inflammatory medications for at least 3 days before treatment
  • Wash your hair thoroughly on the morning of treatment
  • Do not apply styling products, gels, or sprays to your hair before your appointment
  • Stay well-hydrated and eat a normal meal before your treatment
  • Inform your provider of all medications and medical conditions

Treatment should not be performed during pregnancy, active scalp infections, skin cancer on the scalp, or certain blood disorders.

After Your Treatment

Mild redness, tenderness, swelling, and soreness on the scalp are normal after treatment and typically resolve within 2 to 5 days. Small bumps at injection sites may be visible temporarily.

Aftercare guidance includes:

  • Avoiding washing your hair for 8 to 24 hours after treatment
  • Avoiding touching or scratching the treated area
  • Taking a hot shower that evening after treatment to promote results (as directed)
  • Continuing to avoid anti-inflammatory medications for at least one week (Tylenol may be used for discomfort)
  • Avoiding strenuous exercise, sweating, and heat exposure for 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoiding saunas, steam rooms, and swimming for 2 days
  • Avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and smoking for 3 days after treatment
  • Avoiding hair coloring, chemical treatments, and styling tools for 3 to 5 days
  • Avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing a hat when outdoors
  • Staying well-hydrated in the week following treatment

Do not apply ice to the scalp unless directed, as it may interfere with the inflammatory process needed for results.

Treatment Series

Hair restoration requires a series of treatments for optimal results. Most patients benefit from 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart during the initial treatment phase.

Maintenance treatments are typically recommended every 6 to 12 months to sustain hair growth and density. Results are not permanent, and ongoing treatments are needed to maintain benefits.

What to Expect During Treatment

A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and processed while a topical numbing cream is applied to your scalp if needed. The treatment typically takes less than one hour from start to finish.

Once the PRF or PRP is prepared, it is injected into multiple targeted areas across the scalp using fine needles. You may feel mild stinging or pinching sensations during injection. The actual injection process takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes depending on the treatment area.

Results are not immediate. New hair growth and improved density develop gradually over the following months as follicles are stimulated and enter the growth phase of the hair cycle.
