PRF / PRP
Regenerative Platelet Therapy for Natural Skin Rejuvenation
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) at Muse Modern Spa are regenerative treatments that use your own blood to stimulate natural healing and skin rejuvenation. These therapies harness growth factors and platelets to promote collagen production and tissue repair.
PRF and PRP are often chosen by individuals seeking natural alternatives to synthetic fillers or those looking to enhance overall skin quality.
How PRF and PRP Work
Both treatments begin with a small blood draw, similar to routine blood work. The blood is processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which contain powerful growth factors that stimulate healing.
PRP involves spinning blood at high speed to isolate platelet-rich plasma from other blood components. The concentrated plasma is then reintroduced to the skin through injection or topical application combined with microneedling.
PRF uses a slower, gentler centrifugation process without anticoagulants. This creates a fibrin matrix that retains not only platelets but also white blood cells and stem cells. The fibrin scaffold allows for a gradual, sustained release of growth factors over several days to weeks, providing longer-lasting regenerative effects.
Once reintroduced to the skin, these growth factors stimulate collagen and elastin production, improve tissue repair, and promote natural skin regeneration from within.
What These Treatments Are Designed to Address
PRF and PRP may help improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin texture and tone irregularities
- Acne scars and other scarring
- Sun damage and age spots
- Under-eye hollows and dark circles
- Volume loss in the face
- Overall skin laxity
- Large pores
PRF is particularly effective for deeper concerns, volume restoration, and delicate areas such as under the eyes. PRP is well-suited for surface-level skin rejuvenation, texture improvement, and combination with microneedling.
Results develop gradually as collagen production increases, with visible improvement typically appearing within 2 to 4 weeks and continuing for up to 12 weeks.
Customization at Muse
Treatment is customized based on your skin concerns, goals, and the areas being addressed. Your provider will determine whether PRP, PRF, or a combination approach is most appropriate for your needs.
PRF and PRP can be used alone or combined with other treatments such as microneedling, laser therapy, or dermal fillers for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Areas Treated
PRF and PRP are most commonly performed on the face, including the under-eye area, cheeks, forehead, and areas with scarring or texture concerns. Treatment may also be applied to the neck, chest, hands, and scalp for hair restoration when appropriate. Treatment areas are determined during consultation.
Before Your Treatment
To prepare for PRF or PRP:
- Discontinue blood-thinning supplements (vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, ginkgo biloba) for one week prior
- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other anti-inflammatory medications for at least 3 days before treatment (inflammation is part of the healing process)
- Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment
- Eat a normal meal before your treatment
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and skincare products
- Avoid retinoids, acids, and exfoliating products for 5 to 7 days prior
- If you have a history of cold sores, notify your provider as antiviral medication may be prescribed
Treatment should not be performed during pregnancy, active illness, fever, or active skin infections or inflammation in the treatment area.
After Your Treatment
Redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, and mild soreness are normal after PRF or PRP and typically resolve within 2 to 5 days. Some lumpiness or a feeling of pressure at injection sites may occur temporarily.
Aftercare guidance includes:
- Avoiding touching, rubbing, or massaging treated areas for at least 8 to 24 hours
- Sleeping with head elevated to minimize swelling
- Avoiding makeup application for 6 to 24 hours
- Continuing to avoid anti-inflammatory medications for at least one week (Tylenol may be used for discomfort)
- Avoiding strenuous exercise, sweating, and heat exposure (saunas, hot showers, sun) for 24 to 48 hours
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine for 48 hours after treatment
- Applying sunscreen daily and avoiding prolonged sun exposure for two weeks
- Avoiding other facial treatments (facials, peels, waxing, laser) for at least two weeks
- Staying well-hydrated to support healing
Do not apply ice unless directed by your provider, as it may interfere with the natural inflammatory process needed for results.
If PRF or PRP is applied topically with microneedling, avoid washing the treatment area for several hours as directed to maximize absorption.
Treatment Series
Optimal results typically require a series of treatments. Most patients benefit from 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments may be recommended every 6 to 12 months to sustain results.
Results can last up to 2 years, though longevity varies based on individual factors and treatment protocols.
What to Expect During Treatment
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, similar to routine blood work. The blood is processed while a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area if needed.
Once prepared, the PRF or PRP is injected into targeted areas using fine needles or applied topically in combination with microneedling. The entire procedure typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the treatment area and approach.
Discomfort is generally minimal, especially when numbing cream is used.
