Dermal Fillers
Injectable Volume Restoration and Facial Contouring
Dermal Fillers at Muse Modern Spa are injectable treatments designed to restore facial volume, smooth lines, and enhance contours. These gel-like substances are placed beneath the skin to address visible signs of aging and volume loss.
Fillers are often chosen by individuals seeking facial rejuvenation without surgery.
How Dermal Fillers Work
Dermal fillers are injected into targeted areas beneath the skin to add volume, fill depressions, and improve facial contours. The most common type of filler uses hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin that attracts and retains moisture.
When injected, hyaluronic acid fillers plump the skin from within while also stimulating natural collagen production over time. The body gradually absorbs these fillers, which is why results are temporary and require maintenance.
Other filler types include calcium hydroxylapatite, which provides structural support for deeper lines and volume loss, and poly-L-lactic acid, which stimulates gradual collagen production for longer-lasting results.
The specific filler type and placement depth are selected based on the area being treated and the desired outcome.
What This Treatment Is Designed to Address
Dermal fillers may help improve the appearance of:
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines from nose to mouth)
- Marionette lines (lines from mouth to chin)
- Vertical lip lines and thin lips
- Volume loss in cheeks and temples
- Hollow areas under the eyes
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Facial asymmetry
- Loss of definition in jawline or chin
Results are typically visible immediately after injection, though final appearance develops as any swelling subsides over the following days.
Customization at Muse
Each filler treatment is customized based on facial anatomy, aesthetic goals, and the specific concerns being addressed. Your provider will assess which filler type, injection technique, and placement will achieve the most natural-looking results for your individual needs.
Treatment plans may involve multiple types of fillers in different areas to create balanced, harmonious enhancement.
Areas Treated
Dermal fillers are most commonly used on the face, including the lips, cheeks, under-eye area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, chin, and jawline. They may also be used on the hands to restore volume. Treatment areas are determined during consultation based on your concerns and goals.
Before Your Treatment
To prepare for dermal filler injections:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil) for one week prior, if medically appropriate
- Discontinue retinoids, glycolic acid, and anti-aging topicals for at least two days before treatment
- Avoid waxing, tweezing, or hair removal on the treatment area for two days prior
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup
- Inform your provider of all medications, supplements, and medical conditions
- If you have a history of cold sores, notify your provider as antiviral medication may be prescribed
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment to minimize bruising
Dermal fillers should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have active infections, inflammation, or certain allergies.
After Your Treatment
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising at injection sites are normal and typically resolve within a few days to two weeks. Some firmness or slight asymmetry may be noticeable initially as the filler settles into place over several weeks.
Aftercare guidance includes:
- Avoiding touching, massaging, or applying pressure to treated areas for at least 24 hours
- Keeping your head elevated to reduce swelling
- Applying ice as directed by your provider for comfort
- Avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours
- Staying well-hydrated to support optimal results
- Avoiding excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs, intense sun exposure) for at least one week
- Avoiding alcohol for 24 to 48 hours after treatment
- Waiting 24 hours before applying makeup
- Avoiding other facial treatments (facials, peels, laser) for at least two weeks
If you experience severe pain, skin discoloration, dusky or white patches, severe swelling, or vision changes, contact your provider immediately.
Duration of Results
Results duration varies based on the filler type used, treatment area, and individual metabolism. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6 to 18 months. Fillers in areas with more movement, such as the lips, may be absorbed more quickly. Fillers placed deeper for volume restoration, such as in the cheeks, may last longer.
Maintenance treatments are needed to sustain results.
What to Expect During Treatment
Filler treatments typically take 30 to 45 minutes depending on the number of areas being addressed. Most fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to minimize discomfort during injection. Additional numbing cream may be applied before treatment if needed.
Your provider will mark injection sites and carefully place the filler using a fine needle or cannula. You may feel pressure or a pinching sensation during injection.
Results are visible immediately, though final appearance develops as swelling subsides over the following days to weeks.
